Abstract
The critical frequencies of the ionospheric F2 region are used to find the possible causes of the high day-to-day variability in the ionosphere under the influence of space and atmospheric factors. The ionosphere is shown to be influenced by processes that are operating in neighboring regions above and below even in the absence of powerful events, and to respond to forcing as an open system that dissipates the energy.
