  • Abstract
Operator´s models are attracting the interest of industry as they relate to monitoring and control complex large-scale processes. Modeling of the expert operator´s experience is a perfect semiotic paradigm since the operator employs a variety of semea (atoms) or granules of information in order to establish an effect-cause relationship and take appropriate action in the event of an emergency. The operator plays a vital role in bringing the plant states back to a normal mode and takes advantage of mental behavioral models to predict future behavior patterns. The model presented captures the operator´s and engineer´s corrective actions that are based on their experience and their knowledge of the system´s behavioral patterns. The operator´s model is generic in nature and applicable to many complex industrial processes that require human intervention. It is tested first on the PID gain tuner and simulation results are presented; this is followed by an example from the mechatronics arena aimed at demonstrating the intelligent aspects of the proposed methodology
