  • Abstract
Robust and time-efficient thinning of an image, which is both connectivity and shape preserving, can be achieved by adding some new rules in AW and KWK algorithms. The proposed method used 8-neighbors connectivity to thin the images. Output images are thinner and thinning is faster than that by KWK method and accuracy of thinning is better than that of both AW and KWK methods. Slanting lines are more accurate and edge-end thickness problem is overcome. Proposed algorithm can separate two closely-spaced distinct lines. Single pixel noise can be removed by this algorithm.
