Abstract
A METATOY is an array of small optical components that form a sheet which changes the direction of transmitted light rays in unusual ways. We call this ray-direction change metarefraction. Metarefraction can, in principle, lead to light-ray fields without wave-optical analog. METATOYs can achieve metarefraction, but only in a pixellated form.
