Abstract
A method to reduce the average operation time, and increase the transfer rate of RAID-5 disk arrays is presented, along with quantitative models for these paramaers as a funcrion of load. The modified controller allocates moderate sized files (1-20 sectors), and parity information for groups of consecutive sectors, entirely on one disk, avoiding the compounding of latency and queuing delaysfor multiple disks.
