Abstract
Only when an AC voltage was applied under compressed air that discharging initiated at the triple junction. Under negative corona conditions in air at threshold, the DC discharge initiated at the apex of the point electrode. The infrequent burst did not make contact with the epoxy plane as the discharge grew away in the opposite direction. DC discharge in vacuum came to life preferably on the insulating plane facing the electrode.
