Abstract :
This paper introduces a novel visualization approach for the Smart Power Grid using advanced scientific visualization software AVS Express 7.3, to explore the planning and monitoring of the American Electricity Infrastructure. The paper discusses the rationale underlying the Power Grid design, describes its implementation and performance details, and assesses its strengths and weaknesses against the current geographic-based power grid visualization. This paper describes a 3D visualization scheme developed using AVS Express 7.3 to allow users to interactively visualize real time power system information and relationships. This paper describes the architecture used to develop this environment, and then provides several examples of how the environment is used to provide an interactive visualization of power system economic and security information.
