Abstract
This paper introduces the Parallel Advanced Loosely coupled Multiprocessor (PALM) architecture. The architecture is based on HCH(m, p)s, where m is the number of links per every communication processor (CP) and p is the number of application processors (APs) connected to each CP. Among a wide spectrum of HCH networks, HCH(m, 2) is known to be a cost effective topology compared to an m-1 dimensional cube network. The proposed network consists of the largest number of APs retaining a minimal number of CPs and communication links. We also implement a testbed based on the HCH(2, 2) called Tiny PALM. The experimental results promise that the communication bandwidth of the PALM will be comparable to that of tightly coupled MIMD systems.<>
