  • Abstract
    A biofeedback device is being designed to help children between age 3-10 years who are suffering from scoliosis which is a condition where the spine bends laterally or the sides and posture correction. Scoliosis is a disorder that causes an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine, or backbone. The biofeedback sensor is placed at the back of the child suffering from juvenile or acquired scoliosis (a spinal deformity). A wire is connected from the biofeedback sensor to an alarm system. The biofeedback sensor has been set to a particular angle around 15 degrees. Therefore, when the child with scoliosis sways sideways from right to left during standing or walking above 15 degrees of bending sideways the alarm blows a sound to alert the child to be upright or stand straight or walk well. Scoliosis is about two times more common in girls than boys. This device is not to cure the scoliosis, but just to prevent the spinal deformity from further destruction. In this project we have tested on 20 subjects out of which 10 normal and 10 abnormal subjects.
