Abstract :
Eco-physiological information concerning the effect of trellis system on gas exchange property of grapevine is seldom available. However, information of productivity at canopy level is necessary for choosing best trellis system by vineyard manager. In this study, we investigated grapevine canopy conductance against solar irradiance among five different trellis systems. Relationships between canopy conductance and solar irradiance showed different tendencies for each trellis system, but bed trellis system in Katsunuma performed best. Comparison of gas exchange capacity at canopy level achieved the evaluation of productivity among each trellis system quantitatively. Such useful evaluation of trellis systems calls attention for vineyard manager to reconsider the past empirical and groundless argument about canopy management.
