Abstract :
This paper proposes a novel adaptive Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) transmission scheme in which adaptive coding and modulation (ACM) and the required signaling overhead is jointly optimized to maximize the effective data rate. In the considered time-division duplex (TDD) system, the transmitter signals only the most important ACM parameters to the receiver which classifies the modulation schemes based upon a novel maximum-a-posteriori (MAP) algorithm. Simulations results for indoor propagation scenarios show a superior effective bandwidth efficiency of the new technique which can be regarded as a combination of automatic modulation classification (MC) and a pure-signaling-based transmission concept.
