Abstract
Summary form only given, as follows. We have studied a laser-plasma interaction and achieved the heating of an implosion plasma by using a 100 TW heating laser from the Peta Watt Module Laser (PWML) in 2000. An implosion plasma was produced by irradiating 9-beam from Gekko XII on targets with a gold cone. Here the gold cone with a thin plate at the tip is designed to guide the heating laser as close as possible to the compressed core plasma without energy loss in the corona plasma through the nonlinear interaction and creates high energy electrons with high conversion efficiency. The shell targets were deuterated polystyrene shells. The density of the implosion plasma was estimated to be 100 times the solid density. The evidence of heating was confirmed by the enhance emission of thermonuclear neutrons. The PWML was upgraded to be able to deliver 1 kJ at 1 peta watt to advance experimental research in 2001. The experiments using the Peta Watt Laser (PWL), the power dependence of heating has been investigated by the same scheme and we succeeded heating the implosion plasma up to 1 keV by launching a 1 PW heating pulse.
