Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. The emission spectra of plasmas generated by high frequency discharges of some diatomic molecular vapors are of interest for lighting and projection displays owing to excellent color rendering indices (CRI) and to the advantage of using no electrodes. We report on studies of the characteristics of the emission spectra and the plasmoid of InBr generated by microwave discharges at 2.45 GHz. The experiment was conducted using a cylindrical cavity coupled to a WR340 waveguide through a slot antenna, thereby setting up a TE/sub 11/ mode in the cavity. A magnetron generates microwaves at 2.45 GHz. A quartz bulb filled with a few milligrams of InBr powder and argon gas of about 10 torr was placed in the middle of the cavity which is made of metallic mesh to transmit visible light.
