Abstract
In order to host novel mobile services, middleware support is necessary to provide solutions to unique challenges such as limited resources, dynamic execution environments, and heterogeneity. Odin is our middleware that meets these needs, and additionally provides support for the decomposition of service logic between mobile devices and fixed-network machines. In this paper we provide an overview of Odin. Furthermore, we investigate existing remote execution techniques and conduct a series of experiments to show how adding adaptive remote execution support to Odin can increase the performance of mobile services.
