Abstract :
In the TDES (Train Dispatching Expert System), a hierarchical train dispatching knowledge base is built. The inference engine of the TDES is designed with a three-level structure so that the TDES is a dynamic production system with multiple levels, which can automatically select the rule sets and inference control strategies according to the information produced by the TMSS (Train Movement Simulation System). Consequently, the resolution process of problems is self-adapting and closer to the complicated and quick-witted thinking process of train dispatchers.<>
