Abstract :
This paper presents a Genetic Algorithms (GA) based approach to seek the optimal location of FACTS devices to improve voltage stability margin and minimize reactive power loss of the power systems. The location of FACTS devices, type, cost, and parameter values are optimized simultaneously. Static models of three FACTS devices consisting of Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC), Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) and Thyristor Controlled Phase Shifting Transformer (TCPST) have been selected for the steady-state analysis. Case studies with, IEEE 30-bus and 118-bus systems are presented to illustrate the applicability of the algorithm.
