Abstract :
This paper presents a synchrophasor-based approach with cubic spline extrapolation technique for real-time voltage stability margin estimation which can increase voltage stability monitoring situational awareness. The proposed algorithm takes system load trends into account for practical applications. The benefit of the proposed measurement-based approach is that it does not require detailed power system model; that is, the performance of the proposed method is influenced very little by the uncertainty of modelling process. Moreover, the proposed method has low computational burden such that it is suitable for real-time use. Extensive simulations of Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) system are presented to validate the proposed algorithm.
