Abstract
Large scale growth of wind power generation has brought about new challenges which require an urgent enhancement of low voltage ride through (LVRT) capability of wind farm to strengthen the stability of power grid. A number of studies have been performed recently to help wind turbines withstand overcurrent and overvoltage during the fault period, and some available measures have emerged. In this paper, a new simulation is carried out to analyze the factors which relate to the LVRT process especially dynamic voltage recovery period. The simulation results demonstrate that load model, relay protection operating time and wind speed are relevant to the duration of dynamic voltage recovery. Several methods are also proposed to curtail the duration of LVRT, which may provide basis for improving the LVRT capability of wind farm.
