Abstract :
One kind of variable reactor is proposed. It consists of variable reactance converter and electronic power inverter. The topology and the impedance conversion mechanism of variable reactor are illustrated. And the variable reactor is simulated using Matlab/Simulink. The simulation results prove that the impedance of variable reactor can be adjustable smoothly and its higher harmonic content is small. The soft starter is made using the variable reactor. The soft starter´s actual effects of running show that the starter can start motor continuously and smoothly and it has good performance.
