Abstract
In this research, a special simulation program for the conceptual design of parallel-type hybrid excavator is developed. It yields the necessary motor size, ESS(Energy Storage System) size, life span of the ESS, parameters of the energy management control algorithm, and the amount of the consumed fuel. Especially, the parameters of the energy management control algorithm and the size of ESS are optimized automatically using GA(Genetic Algorithm) from the view point of fuel efficiency. This simulation program is actually used to hybridize a practical 21 ton excavator and increase fuel efficiency by more than 20% even though only the main power part is hybridized.
