Abstract
The paper presents a novel technique for stereo matching according to the anisotropic character of human visual system the original stereo images are decomposed into several directional images. The primitive extraction, description and matching are performed parallelly in each pair of directional images. Since the information in each directional image belongs to only a limited interval of direction the matching in each directional image is rather precise and robust. The process is more consistent with the physiology and it directly leads to extensions of Marr-Poggio theory in several aspects. The experimental results have shown the efficiency of the stereo technique.<>
