Abstract
The paper starts with the introduction of a new fuzzy logic based index of sharpness that can be used to identify the sharpness of an image. By using such quantity, the four parameters of an imaging system, i.e. aperture, focal length, gain and offset can suitably be adjusted by various control algorithms, resulting in a fully automatic video camera focuser. The paper describes the hardware and software employed in achieving the goal of fast and accurate control.<>
