Abstract :
A novel method for designing linear-phase two-dimensional (2D) FIR (finite impulse response) digital filters is presented. The method is based on minimizing an appropriately defined least-squares error function taken over the continuous passband and stopband frequency regions. The optimization problem reduces to that of computing the eigenvector corresponding to the minimum eigenvalue of a real symmetric and positive definite matrix. For symmetric fan filters, a closed-form solution is obtained that leads to a simple design procedure for this class of filters. The design method is general enough to incorporate both time- and frequency-domain constraints.<>
