Abstract
Scheduling the generating units in a power system presents a highly constrained combinatorial problem. This paper discusses the solution of the unit commitment/economic dispatch problem using a GA augmented with heuristic knowledge to select the initial population and evaluate the fitness function. The augmented GA is applied to a test system and computational results are presented
