Abstract :
Transformer oil is expected to function as an insulating medium and heat transfer agent. The behavior of oil can be related to its molecular composition and physical properties. The electrical properties and thermal behavior are the fundamental requirements of transformer oil. Oxidation is the primary cause of the degradation of the oil. The insulating oil for electrical equipment is manufactured from selected lube base stock. In this paper the structural considerations and analysis of transformer oil are carried out in detail. The gassing tendency and stability of different oils are also discussed. In-depth study is carried out for procurement of Base oil and its processing with the help of new generation catalysts (like synthetic Zeolites). The design considerations are based on clause 4.4 (Quality Management Standards) of the ISO 9001 which is statutory in nature
