Abstract :
Characteristics of partial discharge (PD) inception and breakdown voltages of SF6/N2/CO2 ternary gas mixture were investigated with AC high voltage under nonuniform electric field by changing the mixture ratio of each gas and the gas pressure from 0.1 to 0.6 MPa. When the mixture rate of SF6 in SF6 /N2 mixture was selected as 50%, with 1%CO2 addition, the breakdown voltage drastically increased and its maximum value within 0.6 MPa became 1.31 and 1.15 times higher than that of 50%SF6/50%N2 mixture and pure SF6 gas, respectively. This result was discussed on the basis of the corona stabilization effect by observing PD light images and current waveforms as well as by applying standard lightning impulse voltage
