  • Abstract
Welcome to the first NSS Workshop on Mobile and Online Social Networks (MOSN 2011), co-located with NSS 2011 in Milan, Italy, September 6–8, 2011. The traditional studies on data networks have witnessed a literal revolution in recent years, as more and more mobile devices are becoming affordable and reliable, combined with online social network, which are increasing pervasive in our social life. Equipped with modern mobile devices, people become part of the data communications. Thus mobile and online social networks have dual properties: it is a social network, and at the same time it is also a data network. Actually humans social behaviours determine and impact on the data communications. Understanding social network characteristics is a key to design a better communication system, optimize the resource utilization, and even improve and help social community and humanity in the digital world. The motivation of the MOSN 2011 workshop aims at providing a forum for the cross-disciplinary discussion on a broad array of computational networking and social behaviours. The researchers can share their research results and experiences in workshop discussion and obtain some feedback to improve their research and development work.
