  • Abstract
    Green technology which can reduce the global warming and climate changing is one of the main challenges for the future of information and communication technologies. To achieve green radio network, operators need to shift their focus to energy efficiency oriented design when deploying macro and micro base stations. In practice, however, the operator should consider not only the energy efficiency but the deployment cost for base station deployment. These two aspects are interacting each other and green network architecture needs to consider these two aspects. In this paper, we propose guidelines for base station deployment of uplink cellular systems. We focus on the connection between energy consumption of the mobile phones and network throughput and consider the relations between deployment cost for base stations and the network throughput. We consider heterogeneous networks with macro and micro base stations, and then we drive the characteristics of energy efficiency and deployment efficiency as a function of macro cell radius.
