Abstract :
A novel method for efficient statistical characterization of ultra-wide band emissions from complex PCBs is introduced, based on principal component analysis with varimax rotation. The method extracts a reduced set of orthogonal eigen-modes and their associated amplitudes from measured emissions data across a scanned plane. Rotated and unrotated solutions are intercompared and interpreted physically. The method is illustrated for measured out-of-band emissions from a realistic Bluetooth wireless transmitter for health monitoring. It is shown that the modelling complexity of emissions from a realistic PCB can be reduced by more than one order of magnitude through reduction of the number of pertinent variables.
