Title :
Testing of integrated auto-switching substation systems

Abstract :
A method of testing automatic switching equipment is necessary for developing a reliable solution. This is true not only from the developers point of view but from the customers perspective also as malfunction of substation HV switchgear can not only be expensive, due to damaged equipment, but can also pose a serious safety risk. With these factors in mind it is imperative that a repeatable and comprehensive method of testing is employed. The use of a graphical user interface for the substation simulator has allowed speedy development of and a very quick turn around of both registration testing and factory acceptance testing of the mesh delayed auto reclose (DAR) / autoswitching solution. This is because tests can be set up and executed with the minimum of effort while still providing a comprehensive testing regime. Future modifications to the substation simulator include fully automated fault sequences and operational tripping scheme test sequences.
