Abstract :
We analyse partial discharge (PD) data created synthetically using the Patsch-Hoof model. In our approach, we consider partial discharge process as a point process. We demonstrate that the dynamics of a deterministic point process may be recovered from the event intervals, or in the case of PD data from the inter-spike intervals (ISI). We present a method for estimating determinism in the partial discharge data. The method is based on the nearest-neighbour prediction algorithm. The achieved prediction error smaller than the mean of the ISI series indicates determinism. We believe that it is essential to test for determinism in the experimental data before attempting to estimate any invariants describing the dynamics of the PD sources
