Abstract
In this paper, a simplified algorithm of maintaining methanol concentration is proposed for direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) without using fuel sensors. The algorithm includes two steps: 1) Determine the ideal output voltage from empirical equations; 2) Determine the fuel feeding time by comparing the ideal voltage with the actual output voltage. The algorithm is suitable for both conditions of steady load and changing load. Its effectiveness is verified by satisfied experiment results.
