Abstract :
Conventional distance relays use a fix zone as well as a fix algorithm for calculation of impedance. A new multidimensional adaptive distance relaying algorithm based on variable data window using least error square method is developed. Protective characteristic of the relay is adaptively changed based on the direction and amount of transferred power through the transmission line. Results of testing the algorithm using numerical simulation and real fault data are presented in the paper.
