Abstract
This paper presents a successful National Grid Transco strategy for cost effectively providing traditional stand-alone bespoke functionality as an integrated electronic device (IED) using a pseudo-integrated approach. This has ensured the retention of the benefits associated with standard systems but with the significant added efficiency of utilising existing plant wiring and interfaces. It has been shown that a functional unit has been developed, installed and commissioned and that successful communications have been established with different substation automation systems using a standard protocol.
