Abstract
In this paper, results of a successfully tested automatic disturbance recording, fault and power quality analysis and information distribution system are presented. The distributed system includes intelligent electronic devices (IED) in several major and small substations. The focus of the application is the quick and reliable analysis of any abnormal behavior of a metropolitan power system. The power system consists of different sections in various locations and includes voltage levels from 400 V up to 380 kV. The target of the maintenance group is "to know what has happened and what we have to do before the customer calls".
