Abstract
The humidity effect on flashover in air in the presence of a dielectric surface was studied on insulator specimens having typical electrode geometries in a humidity chamber. The influence of humidity-dependent change in electric field distribution on the inception and flashover voltage was investigated by field simulation and tests. The concept of indirect effect of atmospheric parameters is proposed and used to explain the anomalous behaviour of insulators in respect of humidity influence.<>
