Abstract :
The Fusion Ignition Experiment (IGNITEX) has been recently proposed as a means of scientifically studying thermonuclear ignited plasmas. Special design characteristics of IGNITEX, the choice of structural materials, and the low fluence of the experiment considerably reduce the potential radiological hazards of such a research facility. The calculated results include estimates of radioactive material inventories, waste-disposal classifications, and downwind doses due to accidental releases. The vacuum wall and magnet structures qualify for categorization as class-B and class-A low-level wastes, respectively. Downwind doses due to accidental releases are generally in the barely detectable range
