Abstract
New developments in transient based earth fault protection are introduced in this paper. Practical experience with two prototype systems incorporating the new methods are described. With the new techniques, a feeder that has a transient insulation breakdown can be identified before a permanent fault develops thereby providing valuable condition monitoring information on the state of the network insulation.
