Abstract
Low voltage variable speed drives with 1-phase input are very much driven by cost considerations. In this respect, 4-switch 3-phase inverter topology was put under consideration. In this paper, review of pros and cons of 4-switch 3-phase inverter for motor drive is presented and practical case is shown. Results show that significantly higher DC link capacitance, higher semiconductor losses and active front-end requirement challenge application of 4-switch inverter.
