Abstract :
E-learning topic, as many authors suggest, still at its infancy and further developments are needed to turn the learning experience more rewarding, stable, and cost-efficient. The new cloud computing paradigm, considered currently a popular research topic due to evident benefits for organizations and customers, can help e-learning to overcome many challenges. These issues comprise the use of outdated technologies and precious resources to manage and deploy learning platforms that still under use at schools, universities, and companies. Furthermore, new ideas from the combination between elearning and cloud computing can emerge as new technological solutions for better learning environments. This paper proposes a set of innovations to be applied on the current cloud computing architectures, business models, and service models in order to accommodate cloud-based learning platforms. The available Personal Learning Environment Box (PLEBOX) is analyzed in order to propose an architectural migration to evolve the current PLEBOX solution into a new cloud-based e-learning platform.
