Abstract
Gene microarrays have the potential to make an enormous impact on medical research and clinical practice if it is possible to solve the information processing problems that arise from the volumes of data that they will generate. This paper is concerned the first step in the analysis of microarray data: the analysis of the images of the data. In the paper, gene microarray technology is described, the image processing techniques devised to extract information from the images of an array are outlined, and some results are presented
