Abstract
In “Control over Wireless,” which means solving a control problem in a wireless communication system, the problem is often explicitly written as an optimization problem with mathematical expressions at a controller, so the components of the system such as intermediate wireless nodes can get to understand and simulate the algorithm for solving the problem and finally the central intelligence can be distributed over the system. Understanding not only its physical environment but also its semantic environment is involved in the process of the intelligence distribution, so we can call it “Beyond-Cognitive Radio.” This paper starts with the overview of the historical relationship between communication theory and control theory, and shows the recent technical developments in wireless communications with the limit that they have never gone beyond. Then, it introduces a recent hot topic in control theory and systems named “networked control systems” and suggests the possibility of the Beyond-Cognitive Radio as an approach for the challenging issues from the view-point of wireless communications in the research field.
