Abstract
The dominance of L-band for personal regional communications may end with high sensitivity high MRP regional satellites. The combination of the higher sensitivity displayed by regional satellites coupled with digital compression enables Ku band satellites to compete for the regional mobile market. The paper demonstrates that personal communications are possible with a 25 cm dish or a printed YAGI or phased array
