Abstract
The author has developed a practical method for image registration between SAR images and optical sensor images like Thematic Mapper (TM) images using a digital elevation model (DEM) and slant range information. In this method, first the foreshortening effect by the SAR observation is simulated and applied to a TM image which is overlaid onto DEM. Then the original SAR image is registered to the TM images using the inverse mapping of this foreshortening simulation. The registration errors of 1.9 pixels/3.3 lines for ERS-1/SAR and 2.0 pixels/1.9 lines for JERS-1/SAR are obtained by this method
