Abstract :
The energy demand that has played a minor role in the process design until now becomes more and more important at present. However, there is a lack of systematic support for the manufacturing engineer for this task. Therefore, an approach is shown how to map metal cutting processes with geometrically defined cutting edge with the help of mathematical models. On the basis of these models it is shown how to design a process in the valid range of the process parameters under consideration of the energy demand. In addition, the handling of the data needed for process design is explained. The approach describes how to provide all product and process data by the integrated product model mapped with the Standard for Exchange of Product Model Data.
