Abstract
In Sweden, the use of polymeric insulators is today very sparse and the knowledge related is limited. It is therefore of vital importance for Swedish electrical utilities and manufacturers to develop new knowledge in this rapidly evolving field and maintain their leading international position. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the field, the knowledge is best achieved with joint efforts of chemists, physicists, and electrical and mechanical engineers. The authors describe the present research on nonceramic insulation, aiming to optimise insulator performance, which has a very strong coupling to other engineering fields in which polymeric materials are used
