Abstract
An extended Kalman filter technique has been used in order to extract from σ0 measurements some bare soil features such as roughness and dielectric constant. The feasibility of the proposed approach has been first tested on simulated data generated using the geometrical optics model. Then, real data, recorded by the HUT scatterometer and by the Canadian Aviosar-580 SAR system, have been used to validate this technique. A satisfactory agreement between the computed features and the ground truth measurements has been found
