  • Abstract
As the amazingly rapid-growing service demand of various users, the 4th generation (4G) cellular base station (BS) has been expected to embrace the concept of utilizing multiple component carriers (CCs) for transmissions. Consequently, the energy consumption will be increased due to the use of additional CCs. The energy may especially be wasted in non-rush hours if no efficient radio and CC adjustment mechanisms. So far, key works focusing on the energy-saving transmission at the 4G BS transceivers have not thoroughly been studied yet. In this paper, two complete energy-efficient downlink transmission schemes based on a state-of-the-art efficient Markov-based activation algorithm for CCs are proposed. Simulation results show that the overall system performance of these two proposed schemes can successfully outperform than that of conventional ones.
