Abstract
Future multimedia applications in complex domains such as cultural heritage management demand the ongoing semantization of multimedia artifacts in communities of practice. These semantization tasks will be realized as web services. In this paper, we present an XMPP-based communication and web service architecture which is able (a) to create, store, annotate, adapt, share, and consume multimedia materials and 3D artifacts collaboratively, (b) to monitor and analyze the web service execution for context-awareness and (c) to allow complex queries integrating knowledge representations from data, metadata and user-generated multimedia semantics. We demonstrate the feasibility of our approach in prototype implementations within the cluster research project Ultra High-Speed Mobile Information and Communication (UMIC).
