Abstract
In this paper, we propose a method to reduce the scan time using detection probability calculated from reports from multiple terminals. The detection probability is a probability that any of two APs (APi and APj) are found at the same time under the condition when APi is found. By using this method, terminals can omit to scan some of channels which are apparently lower in probability that available APs are found. Our simulation results show that the scan time has been reduced by more than 40% compared with a RSSI based AP selection method. The proposed method is expected to improve the quality of service of real-time applications on mobile terminals.
